Item Description
The Kindergarten, First and Second grade students at the Joseph F. Brandt Elementary School collaborated with our talented Art Teacher, Ms. Gionna Forte, to create a work of art which highlights the individuality of each classroom while upholding the collective values and educational expectations which are emblematic of the Brandt student. In the beginning, the stark, white canvas was segmented into 15 shapes to represent both all of our classrooms and also the fundamental similarities in a Brandt classroom environment. Throughout the course of a week, the children were given the sole direction “paint a line” and shown the segment which represented their classroom. The children choose their own color and direction to paint a line. One can see how the child and in turn the classroom interpreted and created their own segment based on this directive. To see the evolution of the artwork throughout the week was similar to watching the growth and development of our learners from preschool through their early childhood years. The lines represent the upward trajectory of progress and the ability for each student to create their own path and blaze their own trail. We remain confident that as you gaze upon this piece you will feel connected to not only one student but all!
