Item Description
In discussing this collaborative effort with my grade 6 students, we directed our designs to focus around capturing the spirit of Wallace Elementary School’s community of students and leaders. This work serves as an examination and expression of school spirit and culture. It also reflects the continuous efforts of our teachers and administration. Wallace is the home of the ‘Wildcats’ and it is a school full of heart that is committed to achieving educational excellence in an accepting, inclusive, and diverse community. We were dedicated to reflect this in the symbolism in our piece.
Artist Statement:
We decided to call our painting, “Peace, Love, and Wallace.” Hands were used to show communication without words and our bright colors were chosen to represent the rainbow of color that is Wallace. Hands creating hearts symbolize the love we have for our community and the puzzle piece was created to relay our heart, acceptance, and pride in the diversity of all of our children. The “W” is cradled to demonstrate how we are the students and leaders that hold up Wallace Elementary to make it the exemplary place that it is to work, live, and learn.
