Item Description
Title & Artist: “There’s a Mermaid Inside Every Cod” - by Eleanor Fisher
Medium & Size: Mixed media over acrylic on wood coated with polymer resin. 19" x 8"
Artist Statement: My philosophy of painting is to communicate the human spirit when it is fearless, filled with curiosity and joyful. I am drawn to the relationship between the interior lives of people and how they are expressed on the exterior. Snapshots that occur within the mind’s eye, freeze frames of the multifaceted beauty of humanity, drive my paintings. My work is spontaneous and influenced by understanding, “Infinite Possibility.”
Artist Biography: Dr. Eleanor Ruth Fisher, PsyD – Glass Shard Painter. Her professional career has been as a therapist in private practice for over 40 years. But after removal of a brain tumor in 1991 (thankfully benign) Eleanor began to feel the impulse to paint. Voices in her head and in her dreams kept repeating the word “Paint”. In early 1992 she bought a huge amount of art supplies – and began her personal journey as a self-taught artist. Her initial focus was to study and learn from works by the old masters and after a few years and many canvases she found her own style, changed from oil to acrylics, and continued to perfect her unique approach to art; primitive, impressionistic, whimsical.
In 2013, her Muse spoke to her again, telling her that she had learned enough about painting and now she needed to smash glass and apply it to her works. And so began phase II of this self-taught artist, now what she calls a “glass shard painter”. Today her studio boasts three diamond-bladed wet saws, stacks of glass of all colors and dimensions, special glass nippers and of course the smashing table. Her home studio and gallery boasts over 100 finished pieces. She has exhibited and sold around the country and her art portfolio is available for viewing at www.eleanorfisher.net.
