Item Description
Title & Artist: “Cod of Understanding” by Tammy Picone Nohelty
Medium & Size: Mixed media on wood 15 1/2 “ x 18 ½” x 1” For indoor display only. Avoid direct sunlight.
Artist Statement: My recent series of encaustic mixed media paintings are a journey of personal, spiritual and emotional exploration. I have been inspired by the memories and subtle messages received in the days after my mom’s passing. The works represent a personal dialogue between the visible and invisible. The colors, shapes, textures of distant memories combined with a visit from a rare yellow finch outside my mom’s home are incorporated into each painting. It’s the interaction between the images embedded within the encaustic wax and the ambiguous visual depth the encaustic medium creates that I have tried to capture the spiritual connection from the unseen. The fragments of memories and messages that are almost visible are embedded in a visual vague state. Each painting has an individual theme presented thought a selected Angel card. The meaning of the Angel card message has been written as part of the underpainting, embedding its message within the fused layers of wax. Each piece represents its own small expression of my current journey of grief and healing and together the pieces present a larger narrative of the gift of this spiritual experience.
