Title & Artist: “Scales: Key of Sea” - by Sheila Farren Billings

Medium & Size: Acrylic paints and glazes, keys, upholstery tacks, wooden codfish. 19" x 8"

Artist Statement: It has been my pleasure to design codfish for the Marblehead Festival of Arts! This year, I decided to try something a little different using a treasure trove of old keys I had been saving in my studio for just the right project. I started by painting several layers of metallic acrylic paint on the fish in shades of bronze, silver, copper and gold; then I finished it with a combination of metallic glazes. The keys were arranged to suggest scales and attached to the wooden fish with upholstery tacks.

Artist Biography: My childhood home was awash in art with my father’s easel a fixture in the kitchen and my mother’s singing a constant background. Even as little children, we were treated as serious artists, but art was never treated as a serious thing. It was a source of joy.

I believe that art is something uniquely human meant to enhance our lives and help us express our feelings. My art enables me to freeze time for a moment -- not as a camera catches an instant, but through the lens of my heart and mind and soul. Pick-up of purchased cods will be on Thursday evening, July 5. Winning bidder will receive a notification email with information on pick-up time and location.

If winning bidder requires shipping, winner's credit card will be charged a separate $24.95 fee to cover USPS ground and handling. Shipping is available within the U.S. only and must be requested within 7 days after receipt of the notification email.

Any cod purchased via "Buy Now" will remain on display at the hosting business through the end of the auction, and will be available for pick-up as detailed in the winning bidder notification email.

If winning bidder has not picked up cod (or provided shipping address) within 30 days after the close of the auction, cod will become the property of Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.
