For the first time in history, the Currier Museum of Art will host a private dinner at its historic house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Zimmerman House is the only Wright property in New England regularly open to guided tours. Now, the public will be allowed to bid on an unprecedented experience – an evening with friends at the beautiful residence. The winning bidder and their guests will be able to enjoy an exclusive dinner with the Currier Museum’s director, Alan Chong, at the historic property in the North End of Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Isadore J. and Lucille Zimmerman House (1950) was designed by one of the world’s greatest modern architects, Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). The Zimmermans were well-known for their love of art, music, and entertaining. The house offers glimpses of a private world from the 1950s and 1960s, including the Zimmermans’ personal collection of pottery, sculpture, and Japanese art. This intimate evening offers the remarkable opportunity to experience the life and art of a bygone era.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house, its interiors and furniture, the gardens, and even the mailbox. In 1979 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dr. and Mrs. Zimmerman left the property to the Currier Museum upon her death in 1988. While the museum offers docent-led tours through the property, this auction will allow the winning bidder and their guests full-access to the home for the duration of the evening.
The evening will start off with cocktails and live music, a tour of the exquisitely preserved mid-century residence, and a customized five-course catered dinner. Each guest will also take home their own special keepsake, a beautiful book, A Work of Art for Kindred Spirits: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Zimmerman House.
