Item Description
A new Tibetan Language Bön Prayers online course will enable students from across the international sangha to deepen their connection to the practice and study of Bön teachings. Taught in English by Geshe Denma Gyaltsen, the resident lama of Ligmincha Texas, students will learn the correct pronunciation and melody of Bön daily prayers and encounter their meaning through Tibetan stories and word study. No prior knowledge of Tibetan is needed. Course materials include:
English translation
Phonetic transliteration
Tibetan script
Plus new materials specifically designed for non-Tibetan readers to understand line-by-line Tibetan word meanings.
The course implements a blended approach to online learning with both self-paced study and a weekly class. Class materials and discussion forums are hosted on the Ligmincha Learning course page, and the weekly live-class (60 minutes) occurs through Zoom video-conference which will also be recorded. The course is co-designed with Geshe Denma as the lead teacher and Bob Clark, an English teacher and longtime student of Tenzin Rinpoche, as teaching assistant.
The first five-week session begins in September 2018 and focuses on five prayers. The live class through Zoom video-conference occurs Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time, New York).
September 23, 2018: Guru Yoga Prayer
September 30, 2018: Refuge Prayer (from the Mother Tantra)
October 7, 2018: Bodhicitta Prayer (from the Mother Tantra)
October 14, 2018: Prayer to Nyamé Sherap Gyaltsen
October 21, 2018: Dedication Prayer
A second six-week session will run in the spring of 2019 and focus on two longer prayers: Inner Refuge Prayer (by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche) and the Invocation of Yeshe Walmo.
Manifesting Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche’s vision for Bön in the West, the Tibetan Language Bön Study program opens another door into the mandala of Bön teachings, deepens individual practice, and provides direct connection with our Bön lamas. Following the launch of the first two sessions, Ligmincha plans to develop further online courses for Advanced Bön Text Studies and Tibetan language.
Course Dates: September 22 – October 21, 2018
