Item Description
Win a Lifetime Adoption of Assal, a young 4-metre [13'] whale shark cataloged in Djibouti, Africa
Assal was swimming with large schools of fish when he was photographed and cataloged by Dr. Jennifer Schmidt of the Shark Research Institute earlier this year in the Bay of Tadjoura, Djibouti, Africa.
This is a lifetime adoption and no annual renewal is needed. Every time Assal is spotted again the guardian will be notified.
Item Special Note
The objective of this auction is to spotlight individuals and organizations working effectively for ocean conservation, and raise funds for field research, education and conservation projects.
The Shark Research Institute began tagging and cataloging whale sharks in 1993 and some of them are available for adoption.
We hope that Assal will be seen again (whale sharks are wild animals and follow their own paths through the ocean).
Dr. Jennifer Schmidt will be leading another expedition to Djibouti later this year and if Assal is spotted again, the guardian will be notified of the date and location, and what Assal was doing.
The winning bid is deductible from US Federal 2018 income taxes as a Charitable Donation. A tax receipt will be issued to the winning bidder.
