Meet Television star and Explorer Richard Wiese in New York City

Richard is host and executive producer of the television series Born to Explore, and a former president of the famed Explorers Club.

Since he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 11, Richard Wiese has circled the globe, capturing powerful images and living one adventure after another—from traveling with Bedouins in Africa to cross-country skiing to the North Pole. In 2002, as a respected field scientist, Richard became the youngest president in the history of the famed Explorers Club.

Richard has circled the globe, capturing stunning images and living one adventure after another—from traveling with Bedouins in Africa to skiing to the North Pole. Richard has journeyed to all seven continents, tagging jaguars in the Yucatan jungles, leading expeditions to Australia’s Northern Territory and participating in the largest medical expedition ever conducted on Mt. Everest. He also achieved the first ascent of an unclimbed mountain in Alaska and discovered 29 new life forms on Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Richard’s philosophy and the premise of his television show Born to Explore® is as much about discovery of the natural world as it is about encouraging a positive understanding of the many distinctive cultures on earth. Richard is dedicated to working with local communities around the world to help their voices be heard in their own words. He believes the most memorable aspect of any journey is not about reaching “the summit,” but the people you meet along the way.

Since Born to Explore® premiered in 2011, it has won two Daytime Emmy® Awards and has earned 13 Emmy® nominations, as well as 24 Telly Awards, 4 Parents’ Choice Awards and a CINE Golden Eagle. The show has received numerous other honors, including a Genesis Award, an Associated Press Folio Award, a Golden Halo Award and the 2012 Walter Cronkite Award for its contributions to journalism and exploration.

The objective of this auction is to spotlight individuals and organizations working effectively for ocean conservation, and raise funds for field research, conservation and outreach projects.

 Being auctioned is a dinner or lunch with one of the world's foremost shark experts or celebrities. This is a unique opportunity to "talk shark" face-to-face, one-on-one, with a real authority on sharks.

How this auction works

1. Bid on a celebrity you would like to get to know personally (shark scientist, educator, explorer filmmaker, shark photographer, television host, conservationist) who works or lives nearby, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area. 

2. We will introduce the winning bidder to Richard Weise. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable date, time and place to meet in New York city at a mutual-agreeable restaurant between November 2018 and July 2019. Richard Weise is booked wall-to-wall with Born to Explore and The Explorers Club until mid November 2018. 

3. The winning bidder pays for lunch or dinner and may bring guests.

NOTE: The winning bid is 100% deductible from US Federal 2018 income taxes as a Charitable Donation. A tax receipt will be given to the winning bidder.
