Item Description
Mid-20th Century Cataloged Ship Model Album by Renowned Photographer Stewart Bale. The privately commissioned work has over 50 photographs of mostly French ship models. Bale’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Liverpool, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Each photograph is marked on the back and/or front with Stewart Bale, Liverpool.
The Stewart Bale archive at the Merseyside Maritime Museum’s Archives and Library holds some 195,445 negatives principally dating from around 1924 to the early 1980s. The film negatives are currently in frozen storage in order to preserve them and are, therefore, inaccessible. Few of Bale's photographs were offered for sale as they were never intended for public display and many have not been seen since they were first photographed. Priceless. - Julie Cawley
