Cape Cod artist Elaine Gardner studied art at Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA. After a postgraduate year at Swain, she spent a period of independent study in Italy. Years later a tutorial with still life painter Anne Hartley inspired her to paint still lifes which she continues to do to this day. She has participated in group exhibitions at the Copley Society in Boston, the Guild of Boston Artists, the Cape Cod Art Association and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
“As for the inspiration, I’m inspired by the objects themselves whether they be metal, glass, cloth etc. No hidden meaning in the objects, just the color, shape, texture or transparency and the way light plays on them. Often a certain object catches my interest and I build a composition around it. It’s never ending and always exciting.”
