Item Description

Have lunch or dinner with novelist, diver and underwater photographer Paul J. Mila in Carle Place, Long Island, New York

It was back in 2002 that Paul J. Mila traded in his corporate suit for a wet suit, and has never regreted it for a moment! Today he spends his time writing, scuba diving around the world, shooting underwater photographs, and speaking to groups about ocean conservation.

Paul has photographed and dived with sharks in the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Bonaire, Curacao, Hawaii, Antigua, Dominican Republic, and in his home waters off Long Island, NY.  He has free-dived with and photographed humpback whales in the Dominican Republic and the South Pacific Tonga Islands. His underwater photos and videos have been featured on National Geographic and Australian television, magazines and scuba diving web sites.

Not surprisingly,  the ocean and diving are at the core of his five novels: Dangerous Waters, Whales' Angels, Fireworks, Near Miss and his newest book, Killer In Paradise. Diving in the same waters as the characters in his books has enabled him to write with realism, and describe for nondiving readers the beauty and wonder of exploring our undersea world.

Paul has also published a children's book, Harry Hawksbill Helps His Friends, and two nonfiction books: Basic Underwater Photography and BUBBLES UP!

Special note: Paul will present his winning bidder with a copy of Bubbles Up, which has several chapters about shark encounters.

In addition, Paul  publishes a monthly online newsletter, The Sea-gram.

Item Special Note

The objective of this auction is to spotlight individuals and organizations working effectively for ocean conservation, and raise funds for field research, conservation and outreach projects.

Being auctioned is a dinner or lunch with one of the world's foremost shark experts or celebrities. This is a unique opportunity to "talk shark" face-to-face, one-on-one, with a real authority on sharks.

How this auction works

Bid on a celebrity you would like to get to know personally (shark scientist, educator, explorer filmmaker, shark photographer, television host, conservationist) who works or lives nearby, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area.

2. We will introduce the winning bidder to the celebrity. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable date, time and place to meet within one year of the close of the auction.

3. The winning bidder pays for lunch or dinner and may bring guests.

NOTE: The winning bid is 100% deductible from US Federal 2018 income taxes as a Charitable Donation. A tax receipt will be issued to the winning bidder.
