William R. Davis is a preeminent contemporary marine artist in the United States. Born in Somerville, MA, he spent the majority of his life on Cape Cod and is primarily a self-taught artist. Intrigued and inspired by art history, Davis pored over maritime paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries and developed technical skills while slowly achieving his own artistic style. Davis’s work is often tonally seductive and luminous in nature from sunrise to sunset, painting masterfully and passionately. His works are dramatic and striking. He is represented by galleries on Nantucket and Cape Cod and in private and corporate collections here and abroad.
