Item Description

A Private Twilight Tour of The Kampong

for up to Ten (10) People

with The Kampong’s Director, Craig Morell

From the moment you enter the gates, you’re transported to a magical world. Stand dwarfed by a sprawling banyan or an ancient baobab tree from Tanzania. Spot a massive manatee or a majestic peacock. The Kampong is one of Miami’s most beautiful hidden gems, away from the traffic and hustle of the city. Once inside, you will have the garden to yourselves.

Located on 9 acres fronting Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove, The Kampong became the beloved home of legendary horticulturist David Fairchild and his wife Marian in 1916. In March 1984, The Kampong was gifted to the Hawaii-based National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) by then property owner Catherine Sweeney. NTBG was established in 1969 by Congressional Charter in recognition of its national and public importance. Heritage collections from Central and South America, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia are found at The Kampong, including rare palms, flowering trees and tropical fruit cultivars. This enchanting and historic estate and garden hosts tours, educational programs and special events and serves as NTBG’s mainland campus for botany and horticulture classes.

Reservations are required, (305) 442-7169.
