A LIFETIME OF FOOD TRADITION
Eric Goerdt was born into a food-obsessed family. Along with being steeped in the quintessential food traditions of the Midwest, Eric was introduced to smoking wild fish and game by Alaskan locals while serving in the Coast Guard in the early '90s. Taking an interest in traditional preparations, Eric built their trust (there may have been a few beers involved) and after a time they taught him how to turn hours of smoke and slow cooking into some of the most flavorful food anywhere.
In turn, Eric became driven to share fantastic meals with the world, and in that spirit he and his wife Lynn opened Northern Waters Smokehaus in 2001. Along with kippering and smoking fish, Northern Waters Smokehaus has continued to push the food envelope with a pioneering and award-winning charcuterie program and a variety of cured muscle meats and fresh sausages.
In 2016, the couple fulfilled their dream of a sit-down local eatery, opening Northern Waters Restaurant in the Chester Park neighborhood by UMD. Northern Waters Restaurant is in many ways an extension of the great food done by The Smokehaus', but with an emphasis on the dining experience and the means to do more than the tiny sliver of a storefront in Canal Park could.
Products as good as ours are hard to keep secret, so naturally our meats have been featured in Bon Appétit, on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive-ins, and Dives, and in numerous newspapers and blogs.
