Item Description
LIVE AUCTION ITEM
Mike is one of three Artisan’s in Development through North House’s unique program that fosters the growth of the next generation of traditional craft artisans. Resident Artisans in the program build in-depth experience in craft, while enhancing the vitality of North House.
This hand-carved and beautifully painted stool is the evolution of Mike’s experience carving a windsor stool with John Beltman back in 2011 while he was an intern. Mike is especially careful in his stool design to make sure that it’s ergonomic and above all comfy place to perch.
Mike said in a recent reflection “My personal creativity seems to thrive with constraint. One of the beautiful things about craft and making functional objects is that to remain functional an object can’t stray too far from its relationship to the human body. There are limits. Though a person can make 500 unique chairs in a lifetime, a chair’s usefulness and comfort are tied to the human body and the human environment. Those are the parameters that tickle my fancy.” Don’t miss your opportunity to own this one of a kind piece that is as artistic as it is functional.
