Item Description

Photographer Frederick "Adirondack" Hodges grew up in Rome, NY and lived most of his life in Utica and spent summers on Fourth Lake and Blue Mountain Lake.  He also had connections to Saranac Lake, as his daughter Sylvia (Sue) married Maitland DeSormo, author of many Noah John Rondeau, Adirondack Hermit, books.

Hodges spent his summers in his Blue Mountain Lake camp making rounds to area resorts and hotels, displaying his photographs and offering illustrated lectures, in an attempt to sell his photographs processed during the previous winter and spring. From 1910 to the 1950s, Hodges produced more than 8,000 negatives from his trips to the Adirondack Mountains.

His photographs feature a hand-tinted gelatin silver print and were usually signed in pencil.

Larger Blue Mnt Road image is approximately 15.5" x 12"

Three smaller images measure approximately 11" x 8.5"
