Item Description
Marina Rae Trejo has been studying movement and wellness since childhood, her young life permeated by dance, music and citrus in an unconventional setting on the beaches of Southern California.
She was first exposed to the Pilates method as a teenager in the early 90's taught by the beloved and late Julian Littleford, of JL Body Conditioning, Del Mar CA., a former Principle Martha Graham dancer and much esteemed teacher in the Pilates community. Julian sparked her interest in what was then a movement technique very much under the radar, and helped mold what would be a lifelong interest in geometry, design and shape with regard to movement. During her college years, she apprenticed with Astrid de Wild, of de Wild Pilates Studios, Santa Barbara CA. from 1993-1997. Her 4 years long teaching apprenticeship, styled under the one-time tradition of Pilates certification where knowledge was passed down from master teacher to student, as opposed to the current hourly model, gave her a rich understanding of the method and an indelible education in how to teach, how to see and how to listen to people's bodies. After relocating to NYC and retiring from a career in fashion, she taught at Power Pilates New York from 2001-2006, concurrently opening the Williamsburg Pilates studio, happy now flat belly in 2003 alongside fellow founder Jessie Zalla, of Zalla Pilates. In 2008 she relocated to Marina Trejo Pilates on Williamsburg's Southside.
Marina has continued her examination of alternative modalities and holistic health practices, studying anatomy with Irene Dowd of Movement Research, receiving her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certification through Om Yoga, New York NY 2003 and completing the inaugural teacher-training program with The Class by Taryn Toomey, New York NY in 2015. She is a licensed board-certified esthetician through the State of New York, 2011.
She has been featured in Vogue, NY Magazine and T Magazine.
She currently offers group classes in North Brooklyn, on site private sessions in Manhattan and Brooklyn and provides nutritional and skin care consulting.
