Item Description
Insignia was first produced by Joseph Phelps in 1974, as the vineyards "reserve" wine. Phelps did not like the word reserve, so he named it Insignia, which became the first proprietary Bordeaux-style blend in Napa Valley.
From the start, Insignia was made from the best blocks in the best vineyards at Phelp's disposal. Even though fruit suppliers for Insignia have evolved over the years and Phelp's own vineyards came on line over time, there has been a notable consistency to the core of the wine.
Insignia is adamantly not a single-site wine. The quality of the raw materials, the continuity in winemaking and the winemaking team's ability to cherry-pick and blend the best fruits are the elements that have enabled remarkable consistency of quality, style and ageability of this wine.
For a vertical tasting of Insignia, note we have in this auction, bottles from 1997, 2001 and 2009.
Yes, we can mail wine.
