Richard Nixon, Vice President under Dwight Eisenhower, ran unsuccessfully for President in 1960 against JFK in one of the closest General elections in history. 1960 was the year of the first Presidential debate and it was televised. Nixon's running mate was Henry Cabot Lodge, United Nations Ambassador.
