Item Description
Deerfield Ranch is an award winning, certified organic producer, crafting 15,000 cases annually. Winemaker Robert Rex makes small lots of handcrafted wine from more than 26 carefully selected vineyards in Sonoma County. Specializing in blended wines, Deerfield is at the forefront of this modern yet traditionally based style and on the cutting edge of California winemaking techniques.
Deerfield wines are renowned for their brilliant colors, rich and wonderfully complex flavors and a long finish. They tend to be fruit forward, with gentle tannins and low acid. The wines are crafted to appeal to the new, younger wine drinker while exhibiting complexity and depth that a studied wine geek or connoisseur will recognize and enjoy.
While luxuriating under the majestic oaks on the Deerfield Ranch ridgetop overlooking Sonoma Mountain and the Valley of the Moon, you’ll enjoy several renowned Deerfield wines while you learn about the flavors of different grape varietals, the subtleties derived from blending and more.
You’ll take home a half-case of Deerfield’s flagship Meritage blend “DRX”. DRX is a Meritage, which means that it is made exclusively from Bordeaux varietal grapes. The 1999 DRX is a classic, Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the framework, depth and the very long finish. Merlot contributes aromas and flavors towards the front of the palate along with delicacy and refinement. Cabernet Franc adds chocolate-like structure toward the top of the palate, broadening the overall experience of flavors. The combined varietal characteristics are enhanced and balanced by three years of extended barrel aging. Ruby-hued, the wine yields complex aromas of black fruit, cedar, olives and dark chocolate. The balance is impeccable, with substantial tannins that caress the palate.
