"Demeter's Dream" was inspired by the artist's fascination with the diversity of nature and the ancient Greek goddess who presided over the fertility of the earth.  In addition to being the goddess of the harvest, Demeter is also goddess of Mysteries, and goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life and death. This book is made from fabric, plant infused paper made by the artist with New England flora, white vellum, and linen thread and has a Japanese stab binding.

Nancer Ballard is the recipient of the 2016 Juror’s Choice Award in the Boston Public Libraries’ Beyond the Book show and has recently exhibited at Zullo Gallery, Brandeis University, and Boston City Hall.  She has an MFA from Bennington and has studied book arts with Carol Barton at Haystack and Anne Pelikan of the School of the MFA. She is currently a Resident Scholar at Brandeis. A series of Nancer’s books appeared in the AAM’s recent A Long-Distance Relationship: The 26.2 Mile Journey.
