Item Description

Longue Vue House and Gardens
New Orleans, Louisiana
Hosted by Amy Graham, Horticulture Director

Your visit for up to four people includes:

  • A private tour of Longue Vue’s eight acres of historically intact Ellen Biddle Shipman gardens with refreshments
  • Admission to the garden for up to four people

Located at the very edge of New Orleans, Longue Vue is a shining example of Ellen Biddle Shipman’s attention to detail and the result of a history of careful stewardship.

Designed by Shipman and architect sons of Charles Platt, William and Geoffrey Platt, for community leaders Edgar and Edith Stern from 1935-1950, Longue Vue is an unrivalled jewel.

The plant collections include 48 Quercus virginiana, a world class collection of over 3,000 Louisiana irises, one acre of plants native to the southeast U.S., over 300 Camellia japonica, seamless boxwood parterres and a delightful mix of contemporary species in the children’s garden.

21 cooling water features adorn the gardens and add to the Moorish atmosphere of the spacious greenswards of the Spanish Court and the Canal Garden.

Horticulture Director, Amy Graham has over 25 years of experience in Louisiana horticulture, with expertise in commercial growing, rare plant propagation, garden designing for wildlife, and lepidoptera rearing.

Item Special Note

Best times to visit: Spring and fall are the best times to visit the garden, which is located ten minutes from downtown New Orleans. While in the city, visitors may want to explore the incomparable eighteenth century French Quarter, and the beautiful ancient Quercus virginiana, live oak, collections of Audubon park and City Park.

Conditions/limitations: the tour is to be arranged at a mutually agreeable time subject to host’s availability by November 10, 2019.
