Item Description

Monoprint

15" x 12.5" x 1.25"

"Descending" is an intimate monoprint. It is one of many investigations in a series of prints called: Lightness of Being. Notwithstanding their beauty, feathers are mainly used, sometimes leaves too, metaphorically to represent the disconnection from meaningful connections that result in loss, loneliness, longing, and hope.  Go to www.johnavakian.com for his original poem regarding these images.

John Avakian has a BFA & MFA from Yale. He has investigated a variety of monoprinting techniques at SMFA, Boston for 24 semesters. In January 2017, he gave a talk and demo on his novel paper litho transfer method at Wheaton College.  Avakian's prints have received numerous awards. The most recent were 1st PRIZE at the 10th and 11th Annual Blanche Ames National Art Exhibition, Easton, MA 2012 and 2013.
