This is a striking Dewi Sita mask from Indonesia. The dark, rich tones and the serene appearance makes this mask a pleasure to behold. It was purchased at Many Hands Gallery in Eureka.

Dewi Sita is a character in the epic poem, Ramayana. Dewi Sita is kidnapped by the ogre king and held on the Island of Lanka (Ceylon). Rama strikes an alliance with the monkey people, whose army defeats the ogre king’s troops, making it possible for King Rama to rescue his wife.
