Item Description
SUZANNE GREY (www.suzannegrey.com) is a sculptor and painter with a lifelong love of horses. Childhood riding lessons led to extended trips on horseback through England and Spain. She has always been fascinated by archaeology and layers of the human story unearthed. The surfaces of Suzanne's horses are layered, each layer telling a different story. Some carry "burdens" to represent the weight of coexistence with man. Suzanne began sculpting conceptual horses 10 years ago. They have developed as a commentary on the human condition. The white plaster forms she builds are a blank canvas upon which poems and stories of identity, grief and loss are written in three languages. Source material ranges from Odysseus Elytis to Elizabeth Gilbert. The rusted metal is collected from all over the world; the artist can identify the origin of each piece. The rust and decay of the metal represent the passage of time. Suzanne’s coveted sculptures are beautiful, unique and worldly. They possess a depth of character and personality that befits the majestic animals they evoke.
