Item Description

You are bidding on a small, approximately 3-3/4" X 4-1/4", unframed collage in gold with a translucent, ephemeral outline to the stronger colors within, created from candy wrappers. Gladys Hack Goldstein (1918 -2010) was an abstract painter inspired by nature, who used light, layers, and glorious shapes to convey what was always bursting to be expressed. Mrs. Goldstein studied in Mexico, Santa Fe, and many other places, but she was born, lived most of her life, and produced her largest body of work in Baltimore. She spent her whole life drawing, painting, making paper, creating mixographias and collages, and sculpting because it was her life's calling--it was in her DNA. Her work is in many public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. The University of Maryland University College exhibition in 2004, "Capturing the Essence: The Art of Gladys Goldstein," celebrated the opening of the Gladys Goldstein Gallery in the UMUC Inn and Conference Center. This gallery is the university's first permanent display of contemporary abstract art.
