Item Special Note

Saint Theresa's Little Flower Orphanage (Meydan) is a House of Providence. After the 1915 Genocide of the Armenian people, the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception find themselves faced with a monumental responsibility.  They must stand responsible for the displaced people and to be the comforting and caring ¿mother¿ of the lonely Armenian orphans.  In Istanbul, Aleppo, Alexandria, Salonika, and Italy, hundreds of Armenian orphans are commended to the care and education of the Sisters.       In 1936 ¿The Providence Orphanage¿ "Nakhakhnamootian Doon" was founded in Aleppo, Syria in the region of Azizie and was a haven and shelter up to 300 orphans. The orphanage is adjacent to an Elementary and Secondary school run by the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. Before March 2011 the unrest of Syria, the orphanage housed up to 35 girls who were happy to live in an environment of peace and security and able to attend regular school like all other children in the vicinity area. Throughout the years, this House of Providence has prepared many generations of girls who have become first class citizens, virtuous and excellent wives and mothers.  Due the civil unrest of the country the orphanage was attacked by mortars and grenades, therefore, most of the orphans are living with their relatives and are cared for, and are attending schools run by the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in Azizie, Zanabek School, and in Meydan, Zvartnotz School.
