Item Description
Spend a day touring the sculpture studios of three Vermont sculptors: Joe F, Mark Goodenough, and Miles Chapin. This once in a lifetime tour, arranged by the artists, is not just an opportunity to see great works of sculpture but a chance to explore the craft, methods, materials and techniques of sculpture while feeling the energy of an artists in the studio.
Artist Joe Fichter
Joseph Fichter is a professional sculptor with 40 years of experience. His home, sculpture studio and horse barn are located in Putney, VT, where he has devoted his work to welded and forged horse sculptures for the past 16 years.
Artist Mark Goodenough
My sculptural medium is fabricated sheet metal. I begin with flat sheets of metal and work them into complex curves using a variety of hand and powered tools. Some of these tools I have built from salvaged or re-purposed materials. I generally work the metal in a cold state, although annealing with a torch is sometimes necessary to achieve very deep forms. Each of my sculptures is made up of individual hammer-formed pieces which are assembled by welding or riveting to make up the larger composition.
Artist Miles Chapin
In my sculpture, I use curves and texture to mimic motion and emotion. I carve directly, developing a relationship with the stone instead of precisely copying a maquette. I embrace imperfection, and try to avoid perfect symmetry. I am constantly playing with the inter-relationship form has with itself. I strive for my artistic voice to come through my work, to touch, and connect with the viewer and pull them in.
