A First Edition of Walter Harding's ground-breaking Thoreau biography. While this copy has a tattered dust jacket, it is WARMLY INSCRIBED by Walter Harding to Anton Kovar on the first flyleaf. Maroon cloth with gilt titling and cover illustration; brown paper dust jacket. Alfred A. Knopf, 1965. Hardcover, 472 pp. Dust jacket has substantial tears and worn edges, with an inch missing along outer spine. Many pencillings by Kovar in the margins, with several articles taped into the back of the book. A volume handled by two noted Thoreauvians.
