Item Description
Cypress (Zarrin & Skyler's Upper Elementary Class)
"...beauty is a question, not of material, but of inspiration. Hence we must not look to richness of material, but to refinement of spirit…" – Maria Montessori
This year the Cypress students got to practice their pyrography skills. Ian Irving, our beloved parent and an incredibly talented woodworker, assisted our students in burning a symbol of their choice into beautiful slabs of repurposed wood. Students researched an ancient symbol that they felt strongly represented themselves and what they brought to the Cypress classroom in our 2018-19 school year.
Two 6th year students designed the “New Pangea” and the rest of the class brought each individual piece to life. This large slab of wood was dissected into 18 different pieces that were then mounted, like a puzzle, onto more repurposed wood, creating a balanced contrast of light and dark.
