Documentary Consulting, Advice, and Personal One-On-One Coaching

Do you have a great idea for a documentary and are not sure where to start?

Are you sorting through hundreds of hours of footage and struggling to find the story line?

Do you have a rough cut and just need someone to look at it and help you sort through what's working and what isn't?

Wherever you are in the documentary filmmaking process, sometimes just talking it through with someone who is highly experienced can help clarify what direction you should take.

Christy Denes is a documentary film editor with over 15 years' experience cutting films and nonfiction programming for clients including PBS, Amazon, Starz, CNN, the History Channel, Oxygen, Lifetime, Discovery, and independent producers. Her work ranges from series with story arcs that unfold over 6 hours to 3-minute PSA’s, with everything in between.

Two of the historical doc series that she worked on were nominated for Emmy Awards in 2015: "The Sixties" for CNN (produced by Tom Hanks) and "MAKERS: Women Who Make America" for PBS (produced by Rory Kennedy). Some of her other work includes: a 2-hour doc for Lifetime about OJ Simpson; a doc series for Discovery about the efforts to rebuild Ground Zero in New York; and a series of short educational docs produced by Ken Burns to accompany his PBS series about America's National Parks. This is only a small part of her extensive documentary editing experience.

Christy has a fine arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design, where she majored in Photography and ended up working primarily in video. Her strengths are story and substance, and creating a seamless arc from the often chaotic and unpredictable footage that comes back from the field or archives.

Whether you're a filmmaker, non-profit or business, Christy can analyze your project and help get you moving in the right direction.
