Item Description

This is a wonderful selection of interesting, affordable great value wines.

Mazzei Castello di FonterutoliChianti Classico 2007, Tuscany, Italy
Vinous 92:

The 2007 Chianti Classico Castello di Fonterutoli blossoms on the palate with dark red cherries, flowers, spices and subtle French oak. Darker smoke, tar and licorice nuances develop in the glass, adding notable richness. A juicy, round finish caps off this magnificent wine from Fonterutoli. In fact, this is one of the most refined vintages of the Castello I can remember tasting. As with so many Tuscan reds in 2007, the wine is delicious today, but will acquire further complexity if cellared.

Clos Saint-Jean Chateauneuf du Pape 2014,Chateauneuf du Pape, France
Vinous 91-93; Wine Advocate 91:

Vivid ruby. Energetic raspberry and boysenberry aromas on the expressive nose and in the mouth, complicated by notes of white pepper and candied flowers. Juicy, energetic and pure; fine-grained tannins shape a very long, spice- and floral tinged finish.- Josh Raynolds

Caves Aliança Quinta da Garrida Dao 2013, Douro, Portugal
Wine Spectator 90:

A lithe red, with a rich array of spice and red fruit flavors accented by powerful notes of hot stone. Hints of violet, forest floor and green herb linger on the finish. Drink now through 2019.

Condado de Haza Ribera Del Duero 2010, Castilla León, Spain
Vinous 90:Brilliant ruby. Smoky aromas of blackberry, cherry pit and game, with a subtle floral nuance in the background. In a wild, meaty style, offering sweet, focused cherry compote and bitter chocolate flavors and a touch of allspice. Finishes very long, with lingering smokiness, fine-grained tannins and a kick of peppery spices.

Zorzal Eggo Tinto de Tiza 2015, Gualtallary, Argentina
Wine Advocate 94:
The one blend in the Eggo range is the 2015 Eggo Tinto de Tiza, which mixes Malbec with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in 2,000-liter egg-shaped cement vats where the wine matured for almost one year. This feels quite complete and balanced, with good ripeness while keeping the balance and poise. The palate is juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a bittersweet finish akin to sour cherries. Very tasty and long. Super.

Round Pond Kith & Kin 2015, Napa, USA
Wine Enthusiast 91; Wine Spectator 90:
A striking example of a balanced wine (cabernet sauvignon), featuring ripe, juicy dark berry, spice, herb and dusty oak, with firm yet tender tannins that let the flavors glide happily along. Drink now through 2028. – James Laube
