Item Description

France’s southern Rhone Chateauneuf de Pape is one of the most versatile red wines of all time as it pairs with almost anything.  A common joke in the wine world is that world renowned reviewer Robert Parker would pour it on his cereal.

This collection includes:

Clos Saint-Jean Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes 2012
Wine Advocate 94:

Similar to the base cuvée, yet with more of everything, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers smoking notes of kirsch, black cherry liqueur, ground herbs, licorice and big minerality. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, seamless, pure and exceedingly elegant, all while carrying superb mid-palate concentration, plenty of tannic grip and a blockbuster finish. Drink this brilliant 2012 over the coming decade or more.

Domaine Senechaux Chateauneuf du Pape 2007
Wine Advocate 93:

Senechaux’s 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is one sexy Chateauneuf that has notes of ripe black cherries, garrigue and flowers soaring from the glass. Ripe, full-bodied and showing the purity, complexity and seamlessness that’s the hallmark of this vintage (and the estate); it’s drinking at point but will keep for another 7-8 years with no issues.

Domaine de la Charbonniere Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes 2009
Wine Advocate 94:

Offering lots of seaweed and marine-like saltiness and minerality, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is full-bodied, structured and concentrated, with lots of ripe red and black fruits, ripe tannin and a great mid-palate. It will have two decades of longevity.

Wine Spectator 92:

Juicy and nicely wound, with a terrific core of cassis and blackberry fruit laced with dark licorice snap and roasted alder wood notes. The long finish is fruit-coated, but with well-embedded minerality. Best from 2012 through 2022.

Domaine Durieu Chateauneuf du Pape 2010
Wine Advocate 91:

Vincent Durieu, who is now in complete charge at Domaine Durieu, has upgraded the quality of their traditional cuvee of Chateauneuf du Pape, which is a blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault aged in cement. A beauty, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is an outstanding, opaque ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied effort displaying terrific black raspberry and kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with notions of lavender, licorice and loamy, earthy characteristics that resemble a damp forest floor. This soft, pure, precise, elegant effort should be drunk over the next 10-12+ years.
