Item Description

This is the 3rd in the 'AWOL the Doberman' series and is in fact the rarest of the four.

Newspaperman George Stanhope and AWOL, his gallant Doberman Pinscher, travel to India where action and excitement abound – they get lost in the jungle, face a man-killing tiger and are assisted by the natives who then come to believe AWOL is the reincarnated spirit of their last Rajah. Everyone who loves dogs, heroism, and red-blooded adventure has a real treat in store – and - an important addition to their Doberman library.

About the series: There is a saying that the dog is the only animal which ever sees its God. In the 1st book, an abused Doberman Pinscher is rescued from the German army's war dog corps by an American correspondent who then names him AWOL. The dog recognizes his God and claims George Stanhope as his only master. The 4 book series covers their adventures through England and France during WWII and then later in Australia, India and Korea.

The author Bertrand Shurtleff, 1897-1967, was a former football star from Brown University who was also a professional wrestler. He acted in a few movies, and toward the end of his life lectured at civic clubs and schools. AWOL The Rajah is wonderfully illustrated by Diana Thorne.

The Rajah: 1948. 1st Edition. Publisher Bobbs-Merrill. Is in Very Good condition. No dust jacket. The red board bindings are firm. There is a small dent to the front board's lower R corner. There is a very slight stain at the L left of the front board. The spine is very slightly faded. No writing or other markings. No dog-eared pages or foxing.
