Item Description

Tamara Duker Freuman knows that bloating means different things to different people. She has written the first evidence-based guide to understanding and treating the many different ways your belly can get bloated. THE BLOATED BELLY WHISPERER will help you determine what causes your bloating, teach you how to avoid your distressing digestive symptoms, and guide you toward what foods you CAN eat to keep feeling well. Come for the helpful diagnostic quiz, stay for the recipes, developed by former Bon Appetit food editor and acclaimed cookbook author, Kristine Kidd!

Meet Tamara
I'm Tamara Duker Freuman, a New York-based dietitian whose clinical practice focuses on the dietary management of digestive and metabolic diseases. While I work with patients who have a variety of health issues, my expertise is in helping identify the many possible causes of gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation and helping patients achieve symptom control and improved quality of life. Because of this expertise, I've been called "The Bloated Belly Whisperer," and I like the name so much I've made it the title of my first book (order now.)

If you have a medical diagnosis already, I'll help you figure out what to eat so as to feel your best. If you don't yet have a medical diagnosis, I can often help you and your doctor hone in on the most likely possibilities based on my reading of your symptoms as they relate to food choices and eating habits.

I tackle the delicate issues of digestive distress in a matter-of-fact, straightforward and reassuring way. My goal is to help people find the healthiest diet they can comfortably tolerate and enjoy; as such I resist dogmatic, one-size-fits-all eating philosophies. To this end, I use my writing platform on U.S. News & World Report to reach hundreds of thousands of people each month with science-based, accessible and practical nutrition advice.  Nutrition and allied health professionals may enjoy the several continuing education courses and webinars I’ve created for Relias Academy.

I earned my master’s degree in clinical nutrition from New York University and completed my training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.  To balance out the glamour of a life spent talking about poop with both my patients and my twin children, I live in the suburbs, drive a minivan and occasionally eat peanut butter out of the jar.
