Item Description
This lucious botle was released October 14th, 2016, with only 30 cases available for retail sale.
The Testa Rosa winemaker, Bill Brosseau, works with their growers to balance the vines so they produce rich, flavorful, and nutritionally healthy fruit, without over or under stressing the vines. All of the fruit is carefully hand sorted, and a gravity flow process is used throughout fermentation. In the cellars, they carefully handle the juice and resulting wine at every step, ensuring maximum varietal and site typicity. Due to the inherent concentration of the Meritage blend, they age it in the barrel for up to 24 months so it can develop at a graceful pace, lending it to maximum complexity and enjoyment for many years to come.
The 2013 Meritage is a blend of the following varietals from the Black Ridge and Camel Hill Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains:
57% Cabernet Franc
29% Cabernet Sauvignon
14% Merlot
Tasting notes:
"Deep red hue. Scents of boysenberry, blackberry, red cherry, pomegranate, sage, and lavender engulf both the nose and seamlessly into the palate. The distinctive fusion of dark fruits, red fruits, and spice pair well with the firm, yet mouth-filling tannins. Modest acidity maintains a fresh profile while not over-competing with the tannins. This multi-varietal blend ends with a structured and youthful touch. Enjoy now through 2024." ~ Director of Winemaking Bill Brosseau
And an accolade:
"Bright and fresh aromas of black currant and Concord grape meet with violet and a sense of chalkiness on the nose of this blend of 57% Cabernet Franc, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot. The sip is bone-dry, relying on a graphite backbone and relatively light body to carry forth purple fruit flavors." ~Matt Kettmann
