This stunning, linited edition artwork, titled Women’s March on Washington #3 (2017), edition # 6/10, measures 48” x 32”, is a mounted duratrans transparency, metal light box.
Ten photographic images were randomly chosen from about 1000 to create an “averaged” image. The images were all shot during the Women’s March on Washington, D.C. on January 21st, 2017. Multiple perspectives and multiple times are shown in the single near abstract condensation of images.
Jim Campbell (Urban parent to Maya '22) is a San Francisco-based electronic artist known for his innovative installations. His new public art installation, “Day for Night”, uses custom LED fixtures to display images on the crown of the new Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.
Born in Chicago, Campbell earned degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In 2012, he was the recipient of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s 13th Annual Bay Area Treasure Award. Previous honors include a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship Award. As an engineer he holds more than a dozen patents in the field of video image processing.
