Item Description
Joy in flight! The 8th Grade class presents New Beginnings.
Nearing our springtime graduation, we, the class of 2019, have created this artistic piece as a representation of our own upcoming flight toward new beginnings, and of the journey of every child that is nurtured and educated here at Stone Bridge School. Various groups of 8th graders came together to conceptualize, design, build, and assemble the many elements of this piece.
The color white, used throughout the design elements, represents qualities of purity and hope for the future.
Thirty-one origami cranes, one for each student and teacher, symbolize happiness, good fortune, longevity, wisdom, beauty, love. Folded from white handmade lokta paper scattered with marigold petals and bits of field grass, each of these origami cranes is as unique as each of us.
Joining the cranes are natural dried branches and plant pods, all attached with either pins or waxed linen to a cotton-covered, cork background. The cork is securely glued to the box backing.
The shadow box itself is constructed of maple wood, finished with a homemade beeswax coating. The front cover is high-quality, UV-resistant Plexiglas. Its dimensions are 30 inches square x 6 inches deep. It is ready for hanging.
We have been together for many joyous years. And just as fledglings who have grown glorious flight feathers, we know it is nearly time to say goodbye to the nest. A vast and wonderful world stretches out before us, and we shall greet it with immense joy and anticipation of the adventures that lie ahead.
