Al Robi was born in Massachusetts in 1922 and as a child learned how to make linocuts from an elder borther. After World War II he settled in New York City, attending Cooper Union Art School and later the Art Students League. He has earned his living for a number of years as a printmaker and is represnted in New York by the Gallery Workshop. His linocuts are characterized by many layers of inks which form textures and broken colors as a foil to the whimsy of his usual subjects.
