Item Description
Room 313 students folded the cranes in response to the story, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. An old Japanese legend says that if you fold 1,000 paper cranes you are granted a wish. In the story of Sadako, she sets out to fold 1,000 paper cranes after getting sick from radiation in Hiroshima. She doesn't meet her goal but her classmates continue for her and end up building the Children's Peace Memorial. There, at the bottom of a statue of Sadako with a paper crane it says, "This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the world." My class folded 1,000 paper cranes this year for world peace. They folded this same wish into each paper crane used in the mobile for our Gala project.
