About Laurel: "Self-taught, I have spent years experimenting blindly, transforming mistakes into methods and new perspectives, learning slowly but inexorably how to better express my ever-present longing for love and connection. The imagery and themes of my work are a lustful rich utopia where sadness and joy co-exist. I want my painting to feel like receiving a hand-written letter through the mail. My art heroes include Leonora Carrington, Dorothy Iannone, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Louise Bourgeois, Mel Kadel, Maya Hayuk, and Swoon to name a few."
Laurel McSpadden has lived in Portland for over 15 years. She lives with her husband and her cats, Phoebe and Richard, in the Kerns neighborhood.
