University of Puget Sound Biology Professor and Director of the Slater Museum of Natural History, longtime bird watcher, Reveler, and all-around-good-guy Peter Wimberger will lead a half-day birdwatching trip for four to Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge or a place of the winner's choice that is within 30-45 minutes of Tacoma. Peter will provide binoculars. Best done spring or fall mornings.
Peter is a evolutionary and conservation biologist who has conducted work in the areas of molecular phylogenetics and phylogeography. His projects include studies of iceworms that live on bacteria and algae in glaciers in Oregon, and the evolution of Anna’s Hummingbirds, birds that appeared to expand their range from the Southwest because of the many hummingbird feeders in the Pacific Northwest. He and his students have studied plastic ingestion by seabirds, starvation in Common Murres, and the whistling wings of sea ducks. He has led students in studies of biodiversity and conservation in Borneo.
