Item Description
TITLE: "The Magnificent Shukas of the Maasai"
SIZE: 8" x 10"
DESCRIPTION: Mrs. Breuer's class has been traveling around the world learning about different cultures and traditions. On our adventure to Africa we learned about the Maasai People from Kenya. The Maasai are famous and easily recognizable by their traditional robe, the Shuka. The different colors of the Maasai garments reflect several aspects of their culture. Blue is the color of the sky which provides water from the rain. Green means the land providing food and nourishment. Yellow represents the sun which makes life possible. Orange stands for friendship and generosity. Red is the most important color for the Maasai and it represents courage, strength and unity. We have created 4 fabric collage masterpieces that were inspired by the Maasai. Each work of art was created by a small group of students that planned and collaborated together. The results are stunning pieces of art that represent each individual in our class.
