Item Description

What does Kay Soso mean?
Kay Soso (pronounced KÄ« Soso) is Haitian Creole for Soso’s House and inspired by the generous hospitality of my mother Solange known to all as “Soso”. She was the quintessential hostess, recreating delicious Haitian recipes for friends, neighbors and family. Soso emigrated from Haiti to New York in the 1960’s where she married my father, a fellow Haitian immigrant.

One of the most common sounds of childhood was a knock on the door. In our two-bedroom apartment on West 91st Street in Manhattan, Soso hosted wall to wall parties for every occasion. Haitian art and mahogany wood carvings set the scene. Dominoes replaced plates on the table after meals. Haitian music or news played on vinyl or the radio. My siblings and I mingled among the multi-generational crowds. The couch in our living room served as the first American home for many Haitians starting new lives in the United States. Haitian treats arrived by way of suitcases carried from Haiti to New York.

My daughter and I moved from New York to Oregon in 2014 and are now settled into a wonderful family life with my partner in Portland. Kay Soso is an homage to the sounds, sights, smells and tastes of childhood. I am delighted to share my Haitian-American experience with you. Kay Soso brings you imported and inspired Haitian products to create your own unique Haitian experience at home. A votre santé! To your health!

The winning bidder will enjoy this handpicked selection of Haitian-themed products, including Caribbean Coconut Cream, Haitian Rhum, two chocolate bars, scrubs, whole bean coffee, a gorgeous bone and mahogany cheese board with 3 cheese knives, and more!
