Item Description
An environmentalist or gardener's delight! Donated by a local nursery, these are 30 small plants of 4 different species of California native plants. All of these varieties flourish in sandy, rocky soil with full light. Hmm...sounds a lot like the landscape of the Grattan Playground. Hint hint.
What's that?
"Wouldn't it be nice to buy these and donate some of them back to the preschool?" you say.
What a great idea!
Rock Phacelia (Phacelia californica)
A perennial herb that grows best in dunes/sand in sun to part shade. It requires low maintenance and grows fast. It blooms bell shaped white, pale blue, purple flowers in spring & summer. This native wildflower is a food source for the Mission blue butterfly, an endangered species endemic to San Francisco.
Thrift SeaPink (Ameria martania)
A perennial herb flowering plant. Known worldwide as a garden and cut flower. Does best in full sun, in well-draining sand or rock gardens. Low maintenance watering, overwatering can rot the bulb. Blooms pink/white flowers in spring. Attracts many local pollinators.
San Francisco Gum Plant (Grindelia hirsutula var. maritima)
Endemic to Coastal California & the San Francisco Bay Area. Perrenial herb grows 1-2ft tall, has a daisy-like flowering head with buds topped by gummy material. Grows best on coastal bluffs, sand or clay in sun. Blooms August to September. Used by native Miwok people as a healing salve.
Beach Sagewort (Artemisia pycnocephala)
Perrenial herb sagebrush from the Sunflower family. Used as ground cover, it is fast spreading, fragrant, low maintenance, and does well in sandy soils and full sun. Blooms fuzzy white or yellow flower clusters in spring and summer.
Local pick-up only!
