Jacques Callot (1592-1635) was perhaps the greatest French printmaker of the seventeenth century. This etching of a guitar player is from his series "Varie Figure Gobbi" of 1616 of dwarves in various poses, including playing musical instruments. The print offered here is a 20th century impression made from Callot's original copper plate, which is housed in the Musee du Louvre's archives.
