Item Description
TITLE: “Beauty in Diversity”
SIZE: 9" x 9" shadowbox
DESCRIPTION: Our primary auction piece is a collection of painted wooden butterflies in flight towards the sky. The butterflies were painted with oil based acrylic paint pens over two sessions by each of the kindergartners, as well as by Frau Hamill herself (and supplemented by the room’s art docents). Each piece turned out as unique as the child who painted it. Collectively, the individual butterflies come to life in a beautiful reflection of the diversity of each child’s creativity and personality. Since the children painted multiple butterflies with their third grade buddies, we also created a series of 25 smaller art pieces in 9 x 9 inch shadow boxes. Each shadow box contains four butterflies: one painted by the student, one by that student’s third grade buddy, one by their teacher Frau Hamill, and an additional butterfly that is hand burned with the kindergartner’s name.
