In 1980 he was a hopeful before Ronald Reagan was nominated and won the Presidency, choosing Bush as his running mate. In 1988 Bush won the Presidency and served for one 4 year term. However in 1992, he ran as the Republican candidate but lost the Presidency to Bill Clinton.
