Item Description
This beautiful 16""x20""oil painting on canvas of a gondola ride down the picturesque canal in Venice is an Ellen Mezibov original. Ellen grew up in Lithuania, then moved to Moscow, where she practiced dentistry for 14 years before moving to the United States in 1988 and practicing for 20 more. She began painting after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 while living in Massachusetts. She and her husband, Leo, moved to Concord in 2012. Ellen Mezibov’s personal prescription for cancer pain included as few pills as possible and a large dose of paint. While she was practicing dentistry, she prescribed as little medication as possible to help her patients manage pain and followed the same guideline herself. She hoped people suffering with pain will hear her story and “look inside themselves to see if they can do anything — painting, writing, knitting, crocheting, walking, swimming — whatever they can do themselves to help manage their pain. It is not true that only medication can help.
Generously donated by Leonid Mezhibovsky, the artists loving husband
